Reading Staff Music One way to read music is through a staff (also spelled stave). A staff consists of 5 lines and four spaces.
Different Staffs: There are many different staffs here are the two most common. One is the bass clef, which is not commonly used with six string guitars. And the treble clef, which is staff typically used for six string guitars.
