The Rest

    A rest is a symbol in music that represents no playing for a particular length in time. To tell the length it time look at the shape of the rest.


Different Rests:
    A whole rest:
    In the time signature of 4/4 it will last an entire measure or four beats.
    (Rest is below the line)
    A half rest:
    In the time signature of 4/4 it will last half a measure or two beats.
    (Rest is above the line)
    A quarter rest:
    In the time signature of 4/4 it will last a quarter of a measure or one beat.
    A eighth rest:
    In a time signature of 4/4 it will last half a beat.
    A sixteenth rest:
    In a time signature of 4/4 it will last one-quarter of a beat.
    A thirty-second rest:
    In a time signature of 4/4 it will last one-eighth a beat.
    A sixty-fourth rest:
    In a time signature of 4/4 it will last one-sixteenth a beat.
