We are a Swiss-Egyptian
team, but some of our Team members were in
Egyptian team 28289 that participated in TQ99; one of
the students of the old team became our coach,
and we are happy that he is with us in this
team.
So we became one coach and
one student, then we got another Egyptian student to
get us the content of the web site. Then we found
another two Egyptian coaches, one of them lives in
the USA.
It was decided to add
programming skills like JavaScript and server-side
scripting to the team. We tried to search a lot for
another participant through the MyTQ system, but we
got no one. Then our national partner suggested to
forward our request to the other national partners of
the other countries, and they will forward this
request to their participants; and it happened!
We got our Swiss team mate who was well
skilled in Java Scripting and we were lucky for that.
Then he worked hard to gain skills in CGI too, and he
did.
Our coaches were helping
us in finding the resources needed for the content
and the layout... There help is immensely
appreciated.
Our meetings were not those periodical
ones, but they were through short intervals of time.
Our meetings were held either by ICQ or eGroups chat
facilities, to see the web site progress, share ideas
and realize our team collaboration, as it was a
little hard to assemble programming skills with
designing skills through different countries.
Well... Now let us have a free talk for each
one of us...
Amir
Hey! I'm Amir,
one of the Egyptian members for the team! First I
would like to thank all my mates who helped me
through the process of establishing this web site. It
was really great and new for me to make an overseas
team, and collaborate with a far Swiss mate! But we
did it and completed our web site at last.
Well... I'm the one who was responsible
for all the layout things, including graphics, layout
design and animations.. Isn't it good ?? hahaha... Of
course it took me a huge time making this layout and
applying it to all the pages, with no broken links,
and no missed parts! This also was a bit difficult,
as Mohamed and I were in the last year in our school,
and we had to study hard and do well in our exams, so
we had to start our work after the exams which ended
in June 22nd, so we had only about 53 days or
something. But we made the miracle, and finished our
work in time... Just in time..
Dominique HEY HEY !
I'm Dominique the "Swiss one".
Well in the beginning I have to say that
this year ThinkQuest was for me a great experience
most of all because I discovered that working
thousands miles away from each other was now
possible! Thanks to the net :-)
In more technical words I was the one in charge
of the interactive (scripts) stuff! I knew
JavaScript, Java and HTML before I came on that team,
but on our first chat they told me 'Now boy you HAVE
to learn CGI's because we are going to need them a
lot'. So I started to study the server-side languages
and to read books about the art of server
making.
It interested me so much that I made my own
Apache server to test our application. I found a real
passion in the server world and that's because of my
TQ2000 team, so thanks a lot to them, and to you
,guys, who are visiting this website that cost us a
lot of time, but gave us, for sure, a lot of joy too
:-)
Mohamed
It's the first time for me to
participate in such a contest, but it was really
great to do. When I started getting the content of
the web site, it was really difficult, coz the web
site subject is dealing with a scientific topic, and
I'm not that good in those scientific stuff. But Amir
and our coaches helped me a lot in understanding
those kind of stuff, and then I was on my way to
complete the content. I got to look in many sources,
and I found just two to get all what we needed!
Then I had
to filter the content from extra information, and
understand all the copyright materials, so we can get
the appropriate permissions. At last I turned in my
work all to Amir to put it on the web site, and my
job was finished! How great! I really hope to meet
all my team in the Award ceremony in Egypt this year,
I need to thank them all for doing all this great
job.
