Uwajima Castle

Date Masamunes grandson, Shikoku built the tenshu of the Uwajima Castle in 1665. Besides the fact that the tenshu is smaller than its stone base, another strange thing about the tenshu is its entrance. There is a formal gate to enter into the tenshu. This is very unusual because the tenshu was supposed to be used as a military post, so most castles had either hidden or trick entrances in case of enemies' attack to defend the castle. The formal entrance gate implies that maybe during the time, there was peace throughout the land, so defensive architecture was not needed.
