Scenarios

For the three castles presented here, the premise is simple enough: storm the castle and attack the tenshu. The army you command will vary according to the particular mission you select, but it will be comprised of the following units. Use them wisely.

Ashigaru Their name means 'light foot'; this refers to their scant armor and relatively weak weapons. Being pulled from the mass population to fill the growing need for warriors, these foot soldiers are poorly trained yet quick.
Samurai Fearless in combat and honorable to the last, the samurai has a good balance of power, defense, and speed. Years of training make him deadly accurate with the katana.
Archer Commanding a powerful longbow, the samurai archers require many years of practice before fully mastering the weapon. In the hands of a true master, the bow and arrow have stunning accuracy from even great distances.
Gunners The introduction of firearms in the 16th century revolutionized warfare in Japan. While boasting more power and marginally better range than the bow, the early guns are not much in terms of accuracy.
Cannon While Heavy and not too mobile, the cannon still packs a mean punch. Fantastic for weakening defenses; not good for any type of stealth maneuvering.
Ninja Practitioner of ninjitsu, the "art of stealth"... Employed as assassins or spies, ninja work alone but are the most feared and least understood fighters in Feudal Japan.

This simulation is based on turns; you make your moves, the computer makes its moves, repeat. The controls of the simulation are simple enough: the arrow keys are used to move the view around the map. The mouse is for selecting units and for clicking the self-explanatory buttons that appear on screen. Holding down the tab key will display a yellow rectangle that shows your position in relation to the castle map. When you click a unit with the mouse, its statistics will appear at the top (orange for your men, grey for enemies). The game will end either when your army is wiped out, when you destroy the tenshu (aim for the middle!), or when you close the window and give up.
