All castles, Japanese or otherwise, were built with one focus in mind: protection. While it
is true that some of the later-built castles in Japan were very ornate and decorative, they
still had the basic structures necessary to put up a basic defense. So what happened when
ambitious armies tried to break those defenses? That is what our simulation is designed to
explore.
This simulation does not go into the minute details of castle defenses, but it does give a
good overview. There are walls,
moats,
yagura,
gates, and of course
tenshu. Each castle map in the simulation
was carefully designed using maps of the actual castles, so the organization of each of the
castles' layout remains the same. There are also a variety of troops to command and to
conquer. In order to make this simulation enjoyable as well as educational, several
liberties were taken with historical accuracy. These are all detailed on the
notes page.
