Notes
In the interests of making this simulation (some might even call it a game) as enjoyable as
possible, some leniencies were taken regarding historical accuracy. In no particular order,
these include:
- Castles were almost never stormed as encouraged in this simulation. The preferred
practice was to beseige the castle into submission. There is one interesting story where
Toyotomi Hideyoshi diverted the waters of a
nearby river in order to flood a castle that he had under seige.
- The "Samurai" unit is actually a misnomer, as all warriors were considered members of
the samurai class. One did not have to wield the katana in battle to be considered a
samurai.
- The "Ninja" unit, though fun to use, is misplaced. While the ninja did play a large
role in military history (via assassinations and such), they would not have been found
fighting side by side with samurai.
- There was more than one type of yagura.
The type pictured in the game is a sumi-yagura, but most castles employed several different
types.
- The different maru of the castle were
built on differing elevations, which is not portrayed in the simulation.
- Mounted warriors were commonly seen in battle, but were left out of this simulation for
technical reasons (memory constraints, for those interested).
The java source code for this simulation is available upon request from
ThinkQuest Team C001119. Be warned, though; it is
gangly and uncommented and comes with no technical support!
