Sylvester Park

In the middle of downtown, is a park called Sylvester Park. It was part of the original plat made by Edmund Sylvester in 1850. At a time it was used as a pasture and during the 1856 Indian War, settlers built a blockhouse there for protection. Today there are huge beautiful trees, shaded picnic areas and places for public gatherings. The gazebo in the middle of the park was rebuilt in 1976. It is located on Legion and Capitol Way.
