The object of football is to score the most points in 4 quarters. Each quarter is 15:00 minutes long. You score when you get a touchdown. A touchdown is when you get into the opposing teams goal, or end zone. A touchdown is 6 points. After a you score a touchdown you have a chance to kick a one-point field goal or make a two-point run. The way you get a field goal is for a kicker to kick the ball through a goal post without the ball bouncing off goal post. The way you got two-points was if you got from the two-yard line to the end zone. Another way to get to points is if the other team gets a safety. A safety is when a team is tackled in their own end zone. After a team gets a safety the other team gets two-points and they receive the ball from a kick-off.
A football field is 100 yards long.(300 feet) You can pass, or run the football to get to the other teams end zone. To do this you have four downs. If you don't progress 10 yards in 3 downs or less you have three choices of what you want to do on fourth down. 1.You can punt (kick) the ball to the opposing team. 2. You can try for a three-point field goal from where you are on the field. 3. You can go for the first down. If you get a first down you can keep going for the touchdown. If you miss the field goal, or don't get the rest of the ten yards the other team gets it from where you were.
A few football penalties are:
- Off sides: When a member of the other team crosses the line of scrimmage. (the line of scrimmage is where the ball is) Result: Repeated down, Loss of 5 yards.
- Pass Interference: When member of other team uses physical force, such as pushing, to make person miss pass. Result: Automatic first down, Gain of ten yards for non-penalized team.
- False Start: When one or more team members starts before quarterback receives ball. Result: Repeated down, Loss of 5 yards.
