The sun is a star which
controls a tremendous amount of our weather. Our improved technology can tell us that the
average temperature for the surface of the sun is about 5,800 degrees Celsius. Science can
also tell us that the center of the sun is about 15 million degrees Celsius. Sometimes
when you look at pictures of the sun, you can see giant flames on the surface of the sun.
Those flares are giant storms also known as Solar Flares. The sun has many brilliant
features such as, more than 1 million Earth's could fit inside the sun.
Sometimes, we do not think about how lucky we are that the sun comes up every day. Because
if the sun did not come up one day. You could classify that day as the end of planet
Earth. Ponds would freeze, many people would die, oil, gasoline, and everything else would
freeze until nothing was left of our world.
A natural
masterpiece of the sun is called "auroras" which occur in the North and South
poles of the Earth. Auroras occur during the night sky and they look like beautiful
curtains with many colors. Auroras happen when tiny, charged particles from the sun
collide with atoms from the Earth's atmosphere.
The sun gives
out a type of rays called UV rays, or Ultraviolet rays. UV waves carry more energy than
light waves, which is why they burn your skin, when the rays burn your skin, it is
commonly known as sunburn.
