Pygmy hippopatamus

It's Time To Save Our Animals...

The Pygmy Hippopotamus lives in West Africa, and usually are in the river with only their eyes above the water. They weigh from 397 to 606 pounds. hippo.tif (246752 bytes)Didn't you think they would weigh more?   They eat under water plants, leaves, twigs, and grasses. Would you believe they can live up to 45 years? It's true! Hippopotamus is a foreign word that means "river horse".

The hippopotamus is endangered, mostly because of it's ivory teeth. As you know ivory is valuable and that is why we kill them, for money. Whew! Now killing them is banned. They are also endangered from the destruction of habitat.  When is this animal going to be taken off our endangered list?
