Government

The Ancient Greek people were the first to develop the democratic government, that means that they individually voted for the person who was to control their city. Democratic governments were introduced in 508 B.C. They voted for many different things, such as whether you were to be banished from the city.

You would be banished for ten years if your name was written on the most ballots. If you were banished, then you were ostracized. When you were accused of a crime the jury would each vote separately, they would throw a token into a bag, if the token had a hollow center then you were guilty, if it had a solid center then you were innocent. They counted up all of the tokens in the bag and you were either guilty or you were innocent, according to how many types of tokens were counted.

The Greek people had assemblies, where you could talk even if you were not a government leader. They had water clocks set up so that you would not talk too long, when the water runs out you stopped talking, or else. the Greek had a very orderly government.
