Vincent Van Gogh painted this self-portrait in September 1888 with oil paints on a canvas. Van Gogh painted many self-portraits including ones that showed him with his ear missing, with a beard and beardless, and with and without hats. He also painted a self-portrait of himself painting a picture.  The picture shown here was dedicated  to Paul Gauguin.  Van Gogh painted many self-portraits, including this one painted in Arles and 28 painted in Paris.
