Van Gogh made a painting in September of 1889 called A Bedroom in Arles. The bedroom was in a yellow house. When he had finished the first painting of the bedroom he made another for his sister and mother. Van Gogh said it was a very hard painting. All of the pictures above his bed are at an angle. His room looked like something was going to happen. It always looked like that from the day he first lived there. All of his things were very neat at the time.

We chose this picture because Van Gogh loved his bedroom, and this room was in the yellow house. He made a lot of paintings in the bedroom, including Vase with Fourteen Sunflowers. Van Gogh shared the yellow house with Paul Gauguin, and the house was very important to Van Gogh.  (Learn more about Gauguin in The Ear Incident or Life.)
