A 1996 census recorded 990,237 people living in Saskatchewan. Two percent of the population speak French and 83% speak English as a first language. Of the 75,400 Native Americans living Saskatchewan, 52% live on reserves. The prinicipal religions are United Church of Canada, Roman Catholic, and Lutheran Church.
