ONTARIO

Ontario is one of the central provinces of Canada. It is bordered by Hudson Bay and James Bay as well as Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Huron, and Lake Superior. On July 1, 1867, Ontario joined the Canadian Confederation. Ontario was formerly known as the province of Upper Canada. When the explorers came to Ontario, there was a tribe of Indians living here named the Iroquis. The provinces name comes from an Iroquis term that may mean "beautiful lake."
