MAJOR INDUSTRIES

A major industry in Nova Scotia is forestry. It harvests annually about 4.2 million cu m (148m cu ft) of wood. It is used to make paper and lumber for building. Trees are also harvested as Christmas trees.


Nova Scotia and British Columbia have the largest fishing industries. Fish sold are shellfish, cod, herring, shrimp, haddock, crab and redfish.

Coal is mined and brings in an annual income of $238m in Canadian money. Cape Breton Island has the main coal mines.

Manufacturing is another major industry in Nova Scotia. Items that are manufactured are processed food, paper and paper products, transportation equipment, wood products, and iron and steel. Halifax and Sydney are two major manufacturing sites.
