Manitoba is in the central part of Canada and is easternmost of the Prairie provinces. To the north of Manitoba is the Northwest Territories and to the east of Manitoba is Ontario. To the south of Manitoba are the U.S. states of Minnesota and North Dakota. The name Manitoba is taken from Lake Manitoba and is believed to mean "great spirit's strait." Manitoba is also known as the Keystone Province because of its central location within Canada.
