Alberta is the westernmost province. It is called sunny Alberta because it get more sunshine per year than any other province. It entered the Dominion with Saskatchewan on September 1, 1905 as the 8th province. Alberta's economy is dominated by agriculture, although, mineral extraction is also a leading sector of the economy. Alberta is the largest producer of petroleum and natural gas. The province is named for Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, daughter of Queen Victoria.
