Here is an example on what development does to it's surroundings. Have you ever seen a huge hotel right next to a beach or lake? Well back (about 20-30 years ago), beneath every hotel in Hawaii there was probably either a small lush forest full of vegetation and little animals or a swampy marsh that supported life for many animals such as ducks, fish, and little birds. When construction is started the builders lay sand and mud down to make the ground level, smothering just about every life form in that ecosystem and killing it. Then when the builders slowly by slowly advance and build more and more buildings creating a city, all hope is lost for the animals that called those places their homes. Many animals have become extinct because of careless builders. When we see a beautiful forest with a great view of the forest we think, wow this is a great habitat for helpless animals, but hotel builders look at it and think of it as a great opportunity for buisness and they'll start building over it as soon as possible. |
