Hawaii beaches today are becoming more and more polluted. Plastic containers, soda rings, and plastic bags are carelessly left on our beaches and it causes animals to die out. In the ocean animals such as turtles and monk seals may suffer the terrible fate of eating a plastic bag or getting stuck in a soda ring. Even today, the Hawaiian Monk seal and the Hawaiian Green sea turtle are endangered and one of the main causes for their plight is pollution. Birds are also affected, especially the ones that dive for their food. When they go down they might see something shiny such as an aluminum can or a toy and they will swallow it. After they get in their mouth they might choke and die. In the stomach of a seabird a whole bunch of junk was found. There were Barbie combs, glow sticks, feathers, spoons, lighters, and even bullets. |
