Birth:

Lucille Ball was born in Jamestown, New York. Her birth date was August 6, 1911. Her hair wasn't naturally red. She dyed it in the year of 1944. Lucille Ball's dream was to become an actress. Her mother sent her to a drama school when she was 15.

Accomplishments:

Lucille was famous for her TV show, I Love Lucy. I Love Lucy was the number one show in America after it had only been out on TV for four months. Six months after after it had been out on TV, her show was being watched in 10 million homes across the country. The reason people loved this show so much was because it was so funny. Lucille Ball's show was awarded five Emmy Awards.

But believe it or not, before her show became famous, CBS did not believe it would get very far. In October 1951, CBS called I Love Lucy "unfunny, silly and totally boring." But most people disagreed with them. People everywhere were watching her show. Lucille Ball entertained millions of people a day.

Ball also had another show called My Favorite Husband. This show wasn't as popular as I Love Lucy. Lucille Ball started My Favorite Husband in 1947. It was a radio comedy. Later on, she started I Love Lucy. This show had a better turnout than My Favorite Husband. People all over still watch I Love Lucy. "I never became truly confident until, in the Lucy character, I began to create something that was truly mine," said Ball.

Her personal life:

Lucy was married twice in her lifetime. Her first marriage was to Desi Arnaz in 1940, when she was 29 years old. In the year of 1957, they were divorced after 17 years of being married. Later, after her divorce, Lucy remarried a man called Gary Morton. The day they were married was November 19, 1961. The day Lucille Ball died was on April 26, 1989. She was 77 years old. On the day that she died she was in Los Angeles, California. People all over America still watch old episodes of I Love Lucy because it's still funny to watch.
