Tiger Shortage!
You may not know it but the tiger is endangered.
They have been hunted heavily since the 50's. There are many solutions
but will the problem overtake it?
How it started
Back in Asia when it all started, tigers were disappearing.
Usually it was for it was for sport, skins or medical products. The superstition
of tigers was very high. Necklets of there claws were suppose to guard
children from, "The Evil Eye".
The whiskers were believed to be poison, a love potion,
or an aid to childbirth. Other things like the
fat, liver, and bones are used as medicines.
Population Rates
The rates had a low of 2000 in the 70's which could have
almost lowered to 1000. Luckily, Project Tiger (see next section) had rose
the rates. By now the rates have 4000 showing in India along with 2000
in Nepal. In the past 50 years, the tiger
population has gone down from 1000,000 to 5,000.
Project Tiger
Project Tiger was established by the Indian government
to restore tiger habitats and keep the tiger out of danger. The project
has been going on since the 70's. They have made 9 sanctuaries
too keep tigers in. The only problem with them is the population is so
low there it's hard to breed. Exxon
is trying use some of their money to help save the tigers.
