Summary: Matt shot a rabbit for supper and made a
delicious stew. Outside, Matt heard a noise in the bushes. He thought it was an
Indian or his father, but is was not an Indian or his father. It was an odd man with
whiskers, and he looked nothing like his father or an Indian. Matt invited the man
into his cabin to eat and to sleep. When Matt woke-up, the man and his father's gun
were gone.

The
Stew
Evening came. I shot a rabbit for supper. As I walked back to the
cabin, I could see the golden sky that would soon turn to a dark blue.
I got home and started the fire. I put the stew on the fire.
I stirred it, and I could feel the warm heat on my wrist. The stew smelled
delicious. I took the pot off the fire and poured it into the wooden bowl that I had
just carved out of an oak branch. I sat at the table that my father and I had
carved. I picked up the wooden spoon and took a taste. Just right! I could eat the
whole potful. I kept on eating until my bowl was empty. Delicious! I wanted to have
more, but I wanted to save some for my meal tomorrow. So I cleaned up and put the
pot, bowl, and spoon away.
I could here the crickets chirping, the owls crying, and the trees
swaying back and forth in the wind. I knew winter was about to begin.
Suddenly, I saw a shadow of someone or something. I new that it wasn't my father and
it certainly didn't look like Attean. It was an short stubby man with whiskers.
I let the man in and offered him some of the stew that I had left over. He
ate all of it!
When he finished, he just laid down on the floor and fell asleep.
