Summary: For the next few days, Matt waited
eagerly. Early in the morning he finished all his chores. At a word from
Attean, he would set out to the Indian village again, but Attean did not come. Matt
stayed patient, but day by day his new confidence began to slide away.
Perhaps he had only imagined that he had passed a test. In Attean's eyes he
probably failed.

Searching
for Manitou
As Attean and I walked back from the village to the cabin, I could see
something in his eyes. It was fear, like something was going to happen. I asked him
what was the matter?
Attean said, "Me have to find Manitou."
"Whats Manitou?"
"Something that comes in dreams."
I looked very puzzled. I didnt understand. I asked him
if he had to go hunting?
"No," he said, "My grandfather has trained me for many
years now. I must do."
"Do what?" I asked, "Where is this Manitou?" I still
didnt understand.
Then he said, "I must go," and he left.
