Summary: Attean came out from the woods. Matt
was still excited about the bear killing. Attean came up to Matt and said,
"Come to celebration." They left for the Indian village.

The
Ceremony
I was sitting on the doorstep thinking of the bear and what I was going
to tell my father. Where is my family? What has led my father not to come? I have
been asking myself these same questions frequently.
I was still jumping for joy at the thought of killing that bear. I
heard dry leaves crushed with someones or somethings feet. A person with
paint on his face started walking closer. It was Attean! His hair was greasy and
shiny. He also had white and blue paint on his cheeks. His black hair was
shimmering.
"Why are you wearing war paint?" I asked.
"Not war paint. Bear ceremony. We have feast. White boy
come."
This seemed like an invitation. I accepted. We started off
to Attean's village. We came to a river. It was dark. I could barely see
Attean. Then Attean motioned me to step in the canoe. I got in. Attean
ran, pushed the canoe, and hopped in at the stern. We were off downstream
towards his village.
As we neared, I could see wigwams and smoke rising into the air.
We stepped out of the canoe. There was a circle of men with headbands and
feathers. Some even wore English redcoats. It appeared to me that it was a
real celebration.
