Hayne Bayless
You've probably heard of the Smithsonian Institute, haven't you? Well, if you haven't, it's an Institute which owns a museum that exhibits fine art, modern technology, and a whole lot of history.
Every year, the Smithsonian Institute selects the most superior artist and holds their annual art show. Hayne Bayless was once invited to this event, along with Bob Parrott. In fact, Bob Parrott inspired Hayne Bayless to enter the doors to the world of art.
He uses an extruder and dies like a lot of ceramic artists. One thing that we thought interesting was that he is a potter, but he makes his by hand (sort of). He extrudes his clay but he does not use a potter's wheel. He does everything, excepting the extruding, by hand.
Hayne says that marketing has to be the hardest thing. He attends a lot of art shows and sells a bunch of his work. But he says that the prices he puts on his pieces aren't good enough. "They're either too high or too low," he says. It's my guess that he thinks that pricing is the hardest thing.
Well, no matter what, Hayne Bayless is an excellent potter, no matter how good he is at pricing or marketing. He is a great guy and an excellent artist. You should meet him sometime.
