                Homesteaders Honey

10 Cups sugar                           

1 tsp. powdered alum                  Mix together, boil slowly

2 1/2 cups boiling water               10 minutes

 

Drop in:    30 white clover blossoms

                 18 red clover blossoms

                 18 fireweed blossoms (rose petals can be used)

Steep 5 minutes.  Strain.  Pour into a can or clean jar.

This recipe was used by Melissa and Jeremy's Grandma.

            Snow Ice Cream

1 gallon fresh, clean snow

1 Tablespoon vanilla extract            

2  cups milk

3/4 cup sugar

Mix milk, sugar and vanilla until sugar is dissolved and mixed well.  Slowly pour mixture over snow in large bowl, mix.   Add berries (blueberries, raspberries, or currants) of your choice to taste.   Adjust quantities to suit your personal tastes.   MMM......superb!!   This is a McKinney family favorite.

Fresh Harvested Greens

Gather and clean tender leaves of dandelions, fiddlehead ferns or fireweed.  Use the greens in salads, or steam lightly and add butter for a nutrient rich side dish.
