13. This is a portion of the original Old Trace. It has been deeply eroded or sunken due to the heavy traffic it once carried.

14, Some of the bad things which greeted travelers on the Old Trace were heat, mosquitoes, poor food, hard beds or no beds, disease, swollen rivers,, and terrible swamps. A broken leg or arm on the trace usually meant death for the lone traveler.

16.MS river

15. The three tribes who lived along the Natchez Trace lived in huts, rather than tepees. Representations have been build at the Grand Indian Village in Natchez, MS.

16. Travelers who floated down the Mississippi River entered Natchez here. This area was called Under the Hill, and it was here that the notorious bars did their business.
