THE HINDENBURG DISASTER

On the evening of May 6, 1937 at Lakehurst airfield in New Jersey, the largest airship in the world was about to land. The Hindenburg was 12 hours late. Then it appeared carrying 36 passengers and 61 crew members. The time was 7:21 when the Hindenburg was only 60 meters (198 feet) above land. One of the crew members thought he heard a muffeled explosion. He checked everything, and everything was fine. Then a little wisp of flame appered near the back of the Hindenburg. Then suddenly flames burst out everywhere. And a great roar. The wreckage collapsed. Passengers jumped from the veiwing windows. Then the great Hindenburg crashed to the ground. The next day all that remained was the burning frame of the airship. Of the 97 people on board only 62 survived. 13passengers and 22 crew members died!!!
