On May 16 1973 Junko Tabei of Japan became the first woman to reach the top of Mt Everest.

Gal Halston & Doug Scott became the first to reach the top climbing the southwest side of the mountain on September 24, 1975. On May 5, 1988 two expeditions reached the opposite sides of the mountain.

On May 29, 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary And Tezing Norgay became the first climbers to reach the summit of Everest.
