The Temperate Forest
Get ready to
learn about the temperate forest. The temperate forest is mainly
where the trees change with the seasons. In the United States, that
would be in the east and in California.
The temperate
forest has a temperate temperature. Temperate means medium.
Weather casters don't usually get the temperature correct in the eastern
part of the United States where the temperate forest is. This is
because the temperature can change very quickly in the temperate forest
as quick as one minute.
There is
always very high precipitation in the temperate forest as high as 140 inches
per year. That means this biome stays moist or damp
most of the year.
The temperate
forest has a wide variety and different kinds of animals. Some of
the common ones are the bears, elk,
wolves
, deer,
raccoons, and many small birds like a cardinal with bright feathers.
Squirrels are another type of animal found in the temperate forest.
There must
be a lot of plants in the temperate forest since there are so many animals.
There are, but the climax, or most common, plants are the deciduous
trees. Deciduous trees are trees that drop their leaves such
as, the elm, maple, and oak.
Some facts
about the temperate forest are that it is the only biome that has seasons
(spring, summer, fall, and winter). Different places call the temperate
forest different things such as the temperate deciduous forest because
of the deciduous trees that grow there. And finally, they may call
it the temperate rain forest because of the amount of rain it gets.
