Anastasia lived in the Russian Empire. They were ruled by a Tsar or Emperor. That made them a monarchy. She lived about 15 miles from St. Petersberg in Tsarkoe Selo. It was a nice and peaceful city. She and her family loved their home, the Alexander Palace, because of their surroundings.
Anastasia and her family lived on one side of the Alexander Palace. It had about 200 rooms in total. Her parents had the lower floor and the children were at top. The side of the house they lived in had many rooms. Anastasia shared her room with Maria. Olga and Tatiana also shared a room next to them. The Mauve Room is the most famous room in the palace.
They spent time on a small private island. They could pull up the connecting bridges and be totally alone. The adults were not allowed here. They cooked meals in a small house. The Fyaderavskii Imperial Cathedral was also close by.
On the Neva River, in St. Petersburg, was the huge Winter Palace. They hated it because it was drafty and smelled bad. It was dangerous too because Anastasia got sick with her sister from drinking the water there. When they visited palaces they used their private train. They also had limousines to travel in.
Their almost favorite palace is Livadia. Anastasia’s father built a white villa on a cliff. When they traveled, they stayed there. The weather there is very nice. They loved their rooms which were enormous and lighted. They had fewer servants there. They liked that.
