Roller coasters are actually the cause
of more accidents and deaths than you might imagine.
Below we have described just a few.
A 29-year-old man was killed on the Cyclone roller coaster at Coney Island Amusement Park in New York. He stood up while riding and hit his head on a crossbeam. (May 26, 1985)
A 9-year-old boy was killed when he fell 30 feet from a looping roller coaster at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot, ND. It was later determined that the ride operator failed to secure the boy with the safety belt on the ride. (July 28, 1984)
A 56-year-old worker was killed when run over by a roller coaster car in Baton Rouge, LA. (June 2, 1985)
An 18-year old employee died in El Paso, Texas when his arm was sliced off in a roller coaster accident. (Sept. 1, 1985)
A 14-year-old girl died from a massive head injury when she fell 29 feet from the Timber Wolf ride at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri. She had been either standing or kneeling in the roller- coaster car just before she fell. (June 30, 1995)
