Knots

If you want to be a sailor, one of the first things you have to do is tie knots. Sailors must first master knot tying. Sailors use knots to tie the helm, to keep the sails up. If you want to be a true sailor then you must first master knot tying.

Clipper ship sailors needed to be able to tie knots quickly and efficiently.  This was done to assist their fellow crew members. You will need to learn the square knot, the bowline, the clovehitch, the figure-eight knot, the sheepshank, and the turk's-head knot.  Practice these to master them.
