Knights

Hello all, here I am again
Come join me as I take you on another spin,
through the stages of becoming a knight,
I'll show you how they learned to fight.
Many children wanted to become a knight when they grew up, but before they became a knight they had to go through stages of training. The first step was to become a page. A page was sent to a castle where they learned to play music, read, and write. The page also practiced wrestling, archery, sword fighting, and horsemanship. Pages had to also learn chivalry.
When the page was about 14 he became a squire, if he had trained well enough. As a squire he had to serve a knight of the castle, caring for his weapons, armor, and horses. He also did the knight's chores and slept by his bedside at night.
When he was around twenty, he became a knight. He followed certain rituals before the ceremony. He took a long bath to symbolically cleanse his soul, then he shaved and cut his hair. In the morning he entered the Great Hall, where a large crowd was gathered. The king made him a knight by sticking him lightly on the shoulder and saying "I dub thee knight. Be loyal, brave, and true." Then the king puts the knight's sword and belt on his waist and then buckled his golden spurs to his ankles. The ceremony was then over. Many traveling knights challenge new knights to joist with them. Jousting is when two knights charge at each other with lances on horseback and try to knock the other off. The one still on their horse at the end is the winner. Tournaments could test the new knights(their strength, speed, and courage). The most important part of the tournament is the jousting.
