Care of Teeth

Why take care of your teeth?

You have to take care of your teeth.  Even though you get two sets of teeth, they have to last you for your whole life.

If you do not take good care of your teeth, they can get cavities.  Tooth decay, or rot, causes holes in your teeth.  These holes are cavities.   Cavities can hurt, they can cause bad breath, and make your teeth look bad.   If this happens, you will have to get a filling from the dentist to prevent more damage to the tooth.

Tooth decay starts right after you eat.  Food and germs left on your teeth form plaque.  The plaque is a sticky substance left on your teeth after you eat.  Plaque makes an acid that will eat through the tooth enamel and cause a cavity to form.

This is what you have to do -

  • Brush after every meal.  If you are not home, you can rinse your mouth with water. You should brush very well before you go to bed.
  • Use dental floss to get the plaque that is between your teeth.  Floss carefully so that you do not cut your gums.
  • Eat healthy foods.  Crunchy foods like carrots help to clean your teeth as you eat.
  • Visit a dentist once or twice a year.
