Kobe grew up in Italy, where his father, Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, played basketball. Before his Italian basketball career Joe played for eight seasons in the NBA. As you can imagine, growing up with a star basketball player made Kobe Bryant play basketball a lot. When the Bryants came back to America Kobe went to school at Lower Merion High School. He was a superstar there and in his senior year led his team to the state championship. In the championship game against Chester High School Kobe scored 31 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, dished out 6 assists, and 9 blocks almost a quadruple double!
After High School Kobe jumped right to the NBA. He was drafted 13th overall in the 1996 NBA draft by Charlotte, who then dealt him to L.A. for Vlade Divac. Kobe had a solid first season, but it was in his second season that he truely blossomed, averaging 15.4 points as a 6th man.
Kobe Bryant is a great player and a joy to watch, with any luck you'll be seeing his high flying, spinnig, twisting, soaring dunks for a long time to come.
