Tim Duncan went to Wake Forest where he co-ran the team with Wake Forest's outstanding point guard, Randolph Childress. Duncan was college basketball's consensus Player of the Year in the 1996-97 season and went on to be the first overall pick in the NBA draft. He was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs and lived up to all expectations, starting in all 82 games and ranked as one of the top contenders for leading scorers, rebounders, and shotblockers. Tim was almost voted unanimously to be the Rookie of the Year in his first NBA season. Duncan had really finished off the year with a great season and many awards. His last year at Wake Forest, Tim was named the National Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive year. He also finished his college career as the all-time leader in shotblocking in the Atlantic Coast Conference history with 481. Duncan was the ACC Player of the Year for the second straight season.
