Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was born on February 4,1915. Today, she is 84 years old. She is remembered as the African American who started the Montgomery, Alabama Bus Boycott.

Rosa started the boycott by not letting a white man have her seat on the bus after a long day of work in 1955. She was tired from working, but she was more tired of the poor treatment that she and other African Americans were getting. Rosa Parks was arrested and put on trial.

Rosa Parks had formed the Montgomery Bus Boycott, with the help of Martin Luther King Jr. This boycott was when all African Americans of Alabama stayed off the buses until the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the laws that allowed segregation on public buses and other transportation were unconstitutional.  Today, all people can sit where they want to on public transportation, thanks to Rosa Parks.
