The game of chess is a very old game of strategy. Each
player wants to capture or checkmate their opponent's
king. They alternate turns moving one or rarely 2 pieces at a time.
In the initial position, they both have 32 pieces
altogether. Since they both have the same number
of pieces in the initial position, they each have 16
pieces in the beginning to start out with.
