The game of chess is a very old game of strategy. Each player wants to capture or checkmate their opponent's king. They alternate turns moving one or rarely 2 pieces at a time. In the initial position, they both have 32 pieces altogether. Since they both have the same number of pieces in the initial position, they each have 16 pieces in the beginning to start out with. 1. The board should be placed so that the square on either player's far right would be white. In the inital position, or the position in the beginning of the game each player should have:

One king One queen
Two rooks Two bishops
Two knights Eight pawns
