Mt. Vesuvius is located in southern Italy is the only active volcano on Europe's mainland. One of Vesuvius's most famous eruptions was in 79 A.D. The towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum were built at the foot of this mighty strato volcano. Its eruption lasted for two days. The ash covered Pompeii and Herculaneum. Mt.Vesuvius' exact location is (40.8 N) (14.4 E).
