Thursday, July 2, 1863 Warren: Saviour of Little Round Top |
|||
|
On the western side of Little Round Top, Vincent was seriously wounded and the Confederates were gaining ground. Warren, later called "The Savior of Little Round Top", rode to get reinforcements. He found Colonel Patrick H. O'Rouke and 450 soldiers on their way to the Peach Orchard. O'Rouke took his men to Little Round Top and used bayonets to fight the Confederates. O'Rouke lost his life in the battle. As more Union troops got there, the Confederates were pushed back. During the afternoon fighting, the Wheatfield in front of the Peach Orchard changed hands four times before the South claimed it.
