Daniel Sickles was born on October 20th, 1819 in New York City. His father was a lawyer and a legal wrangler. He had been through many schools as a child. He took up newspaper business and later studied law. Before the Civil War, he was elected to Congress as a representative. Sickles enjoyed the political atmosphere and had many friends. After had found out that his wife had had a year-long affair, he shot and killed his wifes lover. He was acquitted after a lengthy trial. Although his trial had been acquitted, his political career was over. General Sickles believed in the Union. The Union was the last side he was on before he was injured. |
