The Birth of the SunRetold by Chloe Sydney - Australia
Long, long ago in the Dreamtime there was no sun. Once this big hawk came around the berry tree at night time. There was a tribe of girls picking berries. They had to carry a stick with fire on it. The big hawk came and landed and told the girls that he was their friend. But he was only joking. He told the girls to jump on his back and he would take them back to their tribe. But he was really going back to his nest to eat them. Well all those girls got eaten and the tribe got suspicious and went looking for them. A little bird told the men that they had been eaten by the big hawk. Well, the men got really angry and wanted to teach the hawk a lesson. So when the hawk went hunting for its prey the men put fire in the hawk's nest. The hawk went back to the nest and the fire got caught on the hawk's foot. The hawk flew around madly high in the sky. When he did that it made a big round light in the sky. And that's the story of the Birth Of The Sun. |
