The StarsIn this short movie, the dancer is using two bamboo sticks. In Hawaiian, they are called "Pu'ili." There are also many different types of implements that the Hawaiians use with their dances such as... 'Uli'ulis (which are made out of red feathers and is attached to a small coconut shell with little beads inside so that when you shake it, the beads make a beautiful sound.) Another implement is called an Ipu in Hawaiian. (It is a squash made into a gourd or an ipu.) The Hula dancers hold it in their left hand and beat it with their right to make a deep sound. |
