Thanks

David Boynton

We would like to thank Mr. David Boynton, an environmental science resource teacher on the island of Kauai, for helping us learn about and appreciate nature and the environment and to see how important they are to us. We interviewed him on February 13, 1999 at the Kilauea Lighthouse. He took the time to meet with us personally, showed us around Kilauea Lighthouse, and took us behind the scenes to see what they do to help the animals in the area. He also answered our questions about marine life and about possible sources of pollution in our ocean and its effect on the ocean and sea creatures. We also got some great pictures of marine life in the area and items which pollute our ocean.

Mr. Ray Morikawa

We want to give a big thanks to Mr. Ray Morikawa, a retired biology teacher who is now an ocean resource person on the island of Kauai. He took us on an exquisite reef walk at Anahola Beach Park on February 14, 1999 which we really enjoyed a lot. He also told us a lot about the ocean, like sources of pollution and about tides, and he told us some interesting facts about sea creatures found on reefs. We would like to thank him for taking the time from his busy schedule to meet with us and share his knowledge.

Mr. Carl Sumida

We would like to thank Mr. Carl Sumida, presently a student teacher in Special Education, who has been a fisherman for 23 years on the island of Kauai. We did an interview with him on January 22, 1999 through chat (since we are on different islands). He answered our questions about types of pollution in the ocean that he’s seen as a fisherman or that he’s heard about from other fishermen. We want to thank Mr. Sumida for taking some time after school to “chat” with us. We really learned a lot from him.

Aiwohi Family

We would like to thank the Aiwohi family, especially Mrs. Leah Aiwohi who is one of our best Thinkquest Junior coaches for her help and hospitality when we travelled to Kauai for a weekend to work with our team members there. We would also like to thank Mr. Aiwohi for helping us out with transportation when we arrived, got settled in, and were leaving Kauai and for hosting a delicious dinner over at their home. We really appreciate your generosity. Mahalo!

Imai Family

We would like to give a big thanks to the Imai family, especially Mr. and Mrs. Imai, for helping us do many of the graphics and for giving us some tips on how to do the graphics. We learned a lot from them and we wouldn’t have been able to complete our site without their talents. We also appreciated your hospitality while we were on Kauai. Thank you for helping us with transportation and for the delicious breakfast. We also would like to thank Kiah and Noah, who are members of our team, for introducing us to their wonderful parents. Mahalo Imai’s!

Lynne Sueoka

We would like to send an extra big thanks to the lead coach at our school, Mrs. Lynne Sueoka. She allowed us to meet in her computer lab and use her computers during school, after school, and on the weekends. She also helped us get through the computer problems we encountered while working on our project.

Mr. Darrel Galera

We want to thank Mr. Darrel Galera for coming in and helping with our computer problems as well. Mr. Galera was one of our hardest working volunteer parents who donated their personal time to help all of the ThinkQuest members get through our projects.

Jan Underhill, RN

Thanks to Jan Underhill for all of the pictures of the turtles and sealife from her many dives off the coast of Niihau and Kauai. Besides being a nurse at the hospital here Jan loves to dive and is a certified PADI instructor on Kauai. Great shark shots!

ThinkQuest Junior Parents

Lastly, we would like to send a huge thank you to each of the ThinkQuest Junior parents for their support and help during these past several months. They provided assistance in our projects, transportation, and delicious meals for us when we worked on the weekends. Without them, we could never have completed our sites! Mahalo and Aloha!
