Bullies

by Timothy Gill-Price, Gr. 5, Cyberstories Editor

Lots of kids have problems with bullies and don’t know how to solve them. I, myself, have trouble with bullies. One Sunday night I was at church when a bully attacked and beat up on little kids. When I told him to stop, he started pushing me around. I pushed him back, and I got in trouble and had to sit down until church was over.

How do you deal with bullies? Shoot them? Stay away from them? Pray for them? Any one of those answers?

The Bible is a special book from God that tells us what God wants us to do. When I look for answers to problems, I look in the Bible.

In the Bible a boy named David went to the army of Israel and saw a big strong giant named Goliath, who was the bully of the Israelites. Goliath said, "Send out a man to fight me. If he wins, then we shall be your slaves. If I win, you shall be our slaves."

David took five stones- one for Goliath and each of his brothers. David went out and as Goliath charged, David put a stone in the sling. He said, " You come upon me with a sword and a spear but I come upon you with the word of God." He shot the rock and the hand of God guided it into Goliath’s forehead and he fell to the ground dead. Then David took Goliath’s sword and stabbed Goliath in the heart. This is what people did in the Old Testament.

In the New Testament in the book by Matthew, Jesus said, "If a man slaps you on one cheek turn the other." Jesus said, "Do to others as you would have them do to you." The Lord also said, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute that you may be sons of your father in heaven."

Sometimes, all you want to do is beat up those who persecute you. Of course, if you do that they will beat you up, and you’ll get a detention. Also, it won’t make the mean kid get any nicer to you. Besides, if he’s popular he’ll start to get the whole school turned against you.

So, should you follow David or Jesus? If you shoot the bully like David, you go to jail, so I wouldn’t do that. If you stay away from him it would work out fine, but other kids might call you a wimp. If you pray for them like Jesus told you to, the bully might get nicer. So, I would recommend you pray for the bully and stay away from him. I think you should follow Jesus, because that’s God’s way to live and following Jesus makes God happy. It makes you happy, too. Those of you who don’t know who Jesus is may have seen a Bible somewhere to read. Or you can click on this Keys for Kids box and go read the Bible verse for today.

Go and do what Jesus said to do. You will be blessed.
