Power problems: I hate it when the power goes out at night! Since we eat dinner late, we might end up eating dinner by candlelight. Candles are nice in French resteraunts, but not at home. And dinner can't be cooked, either, so we might eat a cold dinner, too!

Power problems: The first part is always the hardest--finding the flashlight or the candles and matches! Though, I always wonder what would happen if we lost power for a long time. I'm afraid I don't know what I would do, like how to make bread or anything.

Power problems: Hey, I live in a dorm where some of my friends can't use the microwave and print their paper at the same time because their power will go out. They call these things brown outs. In the early days of school when it was hot and they had many fans on, they had about 2 dozen brown outs in one day. They were not happy people. They even got in the school newspaper because of it.

Power problems: We lost electricity once when lightning struck our house. Luckily, it was in the afternoon, so it wasn't dark or anything, but the whole lightning thing was kind of cool...

Power problems: The big power outage that I remember as a kid was when Niagra Mohawk lost power and plunged most of new york state and NY City into darkness. I remember the whole family camping out in front of the fire place to keep warm--A friend of mine was really spooked by the outage because it happened while he was messing around with his model train in his basement(probably disobeying his dad and messing around with the power transformer)--he thought that the power outage was caused by what he had done with his transformer--that he had messed up the power for his house, and the whole neighborhood and the whole state, when he discovered how far reaching the power outage was...he was scared stiff that someone would discover that it was Dave and his train set that had caused all the problems...

Power problems: Hi Sam and Nick: My name is Alicia Brown, and I'm a distance learning instructor at EPGY, Stanford University. I think your web site is neat, and I'd like to contribute to your 'blues due to power failures' list. When the power goes out here, I cannot do my job. Everything I do at work involves computers, and phones ( because the PBX box runs on electricity). When our power is out, I'm like a teacher without a classroom. Also, our computer servers, which handle all of our student email, get very confused when the power goes, and require a reboot/reset. This is time consuming, and it frustrates students who do their work on time, but do not get a response from their tutors. Basically, it is a real bummer here when our power goes out.
