The Colorado River

The Colorado River is 227 miles long. It is 2,200 feet

down into the Grand Canyon. The depth can be 6 to

110 feet and can be 100 to 300 feet across. The river

has more than 150 rapids. The current in some rapids

is so strong it can tear a persons clothing off. In

some parts the river runs quietly through broad valleys,

and in others it squeezes through narrow ,cliffed walled

canyons . The river drains more than ninty percent

of the state's land area. Some say people in

Arizona use too much of the rivers water. They say

it's endangered because of this. In fact, they say it's

one of the most endangered rivers. Arizona can be

fined for using too much of this water. The reason for

this is because it is Arizona's major river.
