The desert is a home for many animals and plants. Harmless desert animals include Chuckwalla, which are edible lizards, and collard lizards, which run on their hind legs when alarmed. There are more than four hundred species of birds that live in the Grand Canyon and all over Arizona. These include wild turkeys, Gambels, quails, cactus wrens, road runners, vultures and eagles. The streams and the Colorado River are swarming with all different species of fish like the trout, bass, bluegills and other fresh water fish.
